CA Harassment Prevention Training Online EMP 1-Hour

Compliance Alert: California law requires employers with five or more employees to provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees. Mandatory training must take place within six months of hire or promotion and again every two years.

New for 2026, our California Harassment Prevention Training courses have updated expert commentary videos along with refreshed interactive content, staying on the cutting edge of workplace issues and promoting a positive work culture.

As a best practice, employers should also train out-of-state supervisors and employees who interact with California employees.

Important note regarding California’s training threshold of five or more employees: When counting employees to determine if you’re required to provide harassment prevention training, be sure to count staff located outside of California, part-time and temporary direct hires, independent contractors, as well as unpaid interns and volunteers.

Harassment prevention training courses are intended for individual learners only. Taking California individual-learner courses in a group setting will not satisfy state requirements.

Compliance Alert: California law requires employers with five or more employees to provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees. Mandatory training must take place within six months of hire or promotion and again every two years. This includes:

  • California supervisors (two hours) and nonsupervisory employees (one hour), including California-based remote workers
  • Newly hired or promoted employees (within six months)
  • Seasonal and temporary employees hired directly to work for less than six months — within 30 calendar days after their hire date or within 100 hours worked, whichever occurs first.

As a best practice, employers should also train out-of-state supervisors and employees who interact with California employees.

CalChamber helps you recognize the fine lines of harassment in the workplace

No one in the workplace should be uncomfortable, afraid or unwelcome by someone else. What was said, how it was said, or when or where it was said, doesn’t change a person’s experience.

Engaging Movie-Quality Videos and Expert Commentary

  • Contemporary, real-life workplace situations include not-so-obvious harassing behaviors, such as a seemingly innocent hug or a comment on a person's gender identity.
  • Movie-quality videos draw you in to each conversation as if you're in the same room.
  • Compelling scenes get you thinking, rethinking and guessing how it all plays out.
  • Videos wrap with commentary by qualified employer trainers who assess each situation and offer key takeaways.
  • Learners test their knowledge as they work through scenarios and interactive quizzes.
  • Bystander intervention empowers employees to address inappropriate behavior before it becomes unlawful harassment.

"A vital step to maintaining a respectful work environment is providing effective harassment prevention training to your workforce."

Why Buy?

A playful joke or a well-meaning hug. As a California employer you may not realize that, while seemingly innocent, either may amount to sexual harassment if the joke is offensive or the hugging is pervasive. In any workplace, if anyone feels uncomfortable, cornered, afraid, or diminished, it may mean they’ve been sexually harassed. It’s those gray areas of even unintentional behavior that can create problems. Your company could be liable.

Exactly what was said, how it was said, when and where it was said, does not change a person’s experience. Or the fact someone files a harassment claim without notifying you first.

California makes itself very clear. It mandates harassment prevention training for supervisors (2 hours) and nonsupervisory employees (1 hour) for any California company with 5 or more employees.

The California Fair Employment Act (FEHA) highlights an employer’s affirmative duty to take reasonable steps to prevent and promptly correct harassing, discriminatory and retaliatory conduct in the workplace.

Since harassment is a major source of litigation in California, CalChamber recommends that employers with fewer than 5 employees also educate and train every employee. Just ask any employer blindsided by a workplace harassment lawsuit. The financial costs are enormous, not to mention the potentially irreversible damage to a company's reputation, employee morale and bottom line.

Consider these statistics from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the California Civil Rights Department (CRD):

  • In fiscal year 2022, 6,201 sexual harassment charges were filed with the EEOC, with 16.3 percent filed by males.
  • From fiscal year 2018 to fiscal year 2021, the EEOC recovered $299.8 million for individuals with sexual harassment claims, benefiting 8,147 people.
  • During the 2020 calendar year, a total of 19,492 complaints were filed with the CRD, with 5,784 complaints accepted for investigation.

Avoid costly lawsuits and maintain a productive workplace. That's why it's so important to purchase harassment prevention training that’s current and meets California's compliance requirements.

Reinforce your company’s zero-tolerance policy. CalChamber's online, interactive harassment prevention training courses use compelling and memorable content that reflects harassment scenarios based on relevant and realistic workplace situations.
